I’m interrupting regularly scheduled programming because:
If you’ve been here for a while, you know that Treasure Beach, Jamaica is a place that has captured my heart and soul. I’ve had the good fortune of travelling and living all over the world, but truth be told…it’s this small rural community on the south coast of Jamaica that’s marked me most indelibly.
So it’s with heart and soul that I’m organizing a magical gathering there on May 17-21, with my friend Meghan.
Nature, Nurture, Nourish is about connecting mind, body and spirit while immersed in the elements and the warm embrace of the beautiful community of Treasure Beach. Whether you’re looking for inspiration, a reset or more alignment, we’ll come together to collectively pause, celebrate life and return to ourselves.
Where and what exactly is Treasure Beach?
“Treasure Beach” refers to a grouping of fishing villages on the south coast of Jamaica, in the parish of St. Elizabeth. This is the Jamaica that most tourists never experience, with no all-inclusive resorts or private beaches in sight. Rather, it’s about community-based tourism, where the typical barriers between locals and tourists don't exist. It’s often described as ‘bohemian’ or ‘artsy’, but these words don’t really do it justice.
Visitors to Treasure Beach typically fly into the international airport in Montego Bay (a drive of 2.5 hours) or Kingston (3 hours). It’s a bit of a trek, but if you join us we’ll make it together, from Montego Bay (unless you make your own arrangements).
And just wait until you see what awaits: turquoise waters, arid but bountiful landscapes, star-studded skies, sunsets that take your breath away every single time, sweet reggae music, and warm and generous people.
And the people are in fact the true treasures of Treasure Beach. A hard-working and resilient community of fishers and farmers, entrepreneurs, artists, healers, aunties, grandpas, kids. In July of last year, the area was devastated by Hurricane Beryl, the earliest Category 5 hurricane on record in the Atlantic in the last 100+ years. In spite of this catastrophe, the community came together and has rebuilt beautifully, with a core ethos of love. In case you missed it, here’s my account of that amazing experience. Nature, Nurture, Nourish is a wonderful chance to support this amazing community.

So what’s this about, exactly?
Upon arrival (May 17), we’ll gather over dinner at our gorgeous venue: Seaside Villa. Offering single or double occupancy rooms (each with its own private bathroom) in the Old Wharf/Calabash Bay area of Treasure Beach, it’s the perfect setting for the magic to unfold. We’ll spend the evening setting intentions for the days ahead, and because our convening is happening just before the world-renowned Calabash Literary Festival that takes place in Treasure Beach biannually (this year’s dates: May 23-25), we’ll also invite you to come having read a book from one of the featured authors.
On Day 1, we’ll experience Nature. We’ll watch the sun rise and greet cows, goats and neighbors as we hike through verdant backroads and beaches dotted with fishing boats. We’ll spend the day in the azure Caribbean waters, visiting a bar in the middle of the ocean and a private beach where we’ll enjoy a delicious Jamaican lunch and beverages (cold Red Stripe or ginger beer, anyone?). Our host Captain Dennis is a leader of the Treasure Beach community and a most special keeper and teller of its stories: definitely someone to know.
Nurture will be our focus for Day 2. This is about caring for and making space for our growth and evolution. We’ll have a chance to meet and learn a craft from artists in the community, while in the afternoon we’ll come together in a guided writing circle, journaling together about nurturing our biggest and wildest dreams. For anyone who wants to share, we’ll also have a (very chill) open mic at sunset, which in Treasure Beach is always magnificent.
On Day 3, we’ll Nourish our bodies with a group fitness class in an open-air gym with 360-degree views of the hills and coastline, guided by the best trainer in town. We’ll then learn about ancestral wisdom for mind, body and spirit, through a plant-based cooking class and delicious meal. Some of you might also opt for a massage or bodywork.
The 3 days will also include a daily practice of yoga, led by our Co-Host Meghan, who is a 200-hour registered yoga teacher. Yoga offers us eco-spiritual connection and grounding in the elements, with our breath as wind, our bodies as the earth, our inner flow as water and our hearts and emotions as fire. Practicing together in Treasure Beach reminds us that we are connected beings – with ourselves and with each other.
After our magical time together, we have a feeling that departure (May 21) will be bittersweet. For those who wish to stay on for the Calabash Festival and keep the magic flowing, we’re happy to provide recommendations.
Who are we?
Ramya : Well, you know me, but just in case you’re new here: I’m a mother, voyager, poet and storyteller who’s been working in the realm of international development and education for 25 years. I’ve been coming to Treasure Beach regularly since the summer of 2021, and to say that it’s changed my life would be the understatement of the year.
It’s in Treasure Beach that I “became” a writer and launched this platform, now known as Assemblage. It’s a place where I slow down, take full breaths, flow in harmony with nature and connect the many parts of myself. When I’m there, I manifest, I dream, I create and I imagine a life full of possibility. The time that my son Rohan and I spent there on the ground in the aftermath of Hurricane Beryl forever changed my life. While I previously haven’t “shared” the magic of Treasure Beach with anyone else, I can’t wait to do so through Nature, Nurture, Nourish!
Meghan : Based in Jersey City, NJ, I am a mother, traveler, yogi, adventure seeker, connector. Professionally, I’ve been working in consulting for 30 years, mostly in the areas of government modernization, sustainability and urban regeneration. I have a passion for building sustainable and equitable communities that extends to my personal life. As a certified yoga and fitness teacher, I’m focused on community and individual health and well-being. I also sit on a local Board of Directors focused on environmental justice and food equity.
I have traveled to Jamaica several times but it was in Treasure Beach that I truly understood the magic of the island. I traveled there alone on a quest to find peace and discovered a space to breathe - and experienced an awakening to my most authentic self. I’ve traveled there with friends who said they could fully see how connected my spirit is to this special place. I feel I have many more Treasure Beach chapters to write and I’m so grateful to be co-hosting this gathering with Ramya.
Us: We met each other at Frenchman’s Bay during sunset on Christmas evening of 2024 and instantly connected. Since then, we’ve been having lots of conversations about how special this place is and what it means to live in alignment with our full selves and our boldest dreams. We’re so excited to be joining forces to do just that through Nature, Nurture, Nourish. Join us in this exciting journey!
